Enjoying one of the biggest prizes of Salon Culinaire 2019, the University of Derby culinary student got the opportunity to see first-hand how some of the world’s most iconic confectioneries are created.

Accompanied by Ferrero UK & Ireland’s Head of Foodservice, Fiona Morgan & Channel Operators Manager, Zareen Debboo, the two-day trip also included a tour of the food and drink delights the hazelnut region of Italy has to offer with a visit to a Michelin-starred restaurant and one of the region’s oldest wineries.

Speaking of the trip Fiona Morgan said:
“The Italian town of Alba is where it all began for nutella® and Ferrero. We were delighted to be able to share this experience with our worthy nutella® Chef Challenge winner! At the competition, Regor wowed us with his inspirational dessert and this trip was the perfect way to reward his creativity, giving him a rare insight into what it takes to create our most-loved quality products.”

Alongside the chance to visit the Ferrero Factory, a highlight of the prize was the chance to sample a tasting menu at the Michelin star La Madernassa. Beautifully presented, each plate was carefully crafted by Chef Michelangelo Mammolitti, celebrating the best in Italian produce.

Reflecting on the prize, nutella® Chef Challenge Winner, Regor Siiner said:
“A huge thank you to Ferrero Foodservice for this opportunity! It was amazing to see inside the Ferrero Factory and I was truly blown away by the dinner at La Madernassa. It was incredible to be able to taste all of these dishes and see the chef’s skill on each plate – it has been an inspiring experience.”

Showing another side to the Piedmont region, the trip finished with a tour of the ancient cellars of Pio Cesare in the heart of Alba town. Dating back to 1881, the winery specialises in reflecting the traditional characteristics of authentic Barolo and Barbaresco wines.

Crowned the winner of the nutella® Chef Challenge at the prestigious Salon Culinaire, Regor’s dessert included a chocolate pastry tart filled with blackberry mousse. The finishing touch was a bon bon filled with nutella®, carefully created with crispy filo pastry in the shape of an old fashioned sweet.
